Hello!

We’re so excited you're interested in Pilates with us!

This page is set up to help you understand Pilates, who we are, and how to get from “I want to do Pilates” to “I just did my first class/session and am ready for more!”

What Pilates is

Pilates (pronounced Puh-LAH-teez) is a system of "mind body" exercises designed to strengthen & lengthen core musclature, which benefits the entire body.

Pilates focuses on strength, stability, stretch, stamina.

The Pilates system is amazing in that it will not force your body to do what it’s not ready to do- It’s highly adaptable which makes it great for beginners and those with injuries.

Pilates is also challenging… and used by many athletes, dancers, and high level fitness folks to “up their game”.

Pilates focuses on doing fewer “reps” but being extremely mindful/focused on form- think “Quality over quantity”… so you may only do 3 reps of a particular exercise, but you’ll focus on using the correct form, targeting the correct muscles.

There’s “Mat work” (Pilates on a mat on the floor) and “Machine Work”.

Mat work is amazing, often more challenging because you’re fighting gravity.

Machine work is done on a variety of spring assisted machines that look like torture devices.
(Pilates studios often look like bougie torture dungeons!)

Some of the most common machine work is done on the Cadillac, Reformer, Wunda Chair and High Chair- all machines we have/use at The Pilates Mill.

Sometimes people incorrectly compare Pilates to Yoga. We love Yoga, but they are pretty different. At least, the way we do Pilates.

There are a lot of non classical based studios jumping on the “Pilates trend wagon”, creating a lot of confusion about what Pilates is… Some experiences are better than others. Some are just “bad Pilates”. Some are dangerous due to the amount of Reformers in a class, so please… buyer beware.

If you've done Pilates in a non classical environment, please please please try the classical ilates method at least once (even if it’s not at The Pilates Mill) to experience the difference!

If you have any questions about what Pilates is or what to expect, please feel free to contact us- we're extremely beginner friendly and love to share Pilates with everyone!

Who The Pilates Mill is

We’re a boutique, beginner friendly classically based Pilates Studio.

The Pilates Mill has been owned and operated by Codi for almost a decade in the Nolensville area.

We focus on the Classical Pilates method, as designed/created by Joseph Pilates.

We feel it offers the greatest overall benefit, but we’re not fanatical. We ARE picky though! At the end of the day, we appreciate modern Pilates methods and some of our instructors are even certified that way.

Our space is intentionally small and intimate- you won’t find mega-rows of reformers, disco balls, loud pumping music or 2000’s era Britney Spears headset microphones.
(We love you Britney- but some things are best left "on the stage".

We put a lot of effort in to creating a warm, inviting community- from all walks of life, fitness levels, nationalities and religious and political backgrounds.

Classes are never the same- we teach to the varying clients in the class. It’s a part of our Classical Pilates training and allows us the flexibility for everyone to have an amazing experience.

Our bread and butter has been private sessions, but we’re making efforts to offer more classes- one of the reasons we moved in to our new Cartohers Farms location.

We’re serious about Pilates in a not so serious way- it’s part of what makes our community so special.
(You won’t be scoffed at for walking over to Ingrained Cafe after your session!)

Please stop by and say hi- we love to chat... we're typically around sceduled class times, and randomly throughout the day for private sessions.

Scheduling your first session/class

We've been there- you just want to do Pilates but you've gotta create yet another account, download another app, pressing the right buttons, adding your contact info all while standing on your head, praying to the spam gods you don't get hacked...

So if you ever get stuck, please call or stop by- we're happy to walk you through the process or even manually schedule your session/class (and walk you through the process later).

We currently use Wellness Living for scheduling/payment processing. Ultimately, you'll need to create an account. There's even an app you can download to manage scheduling on your phone.

Depending on how you set up your Wellness Living profile, you'll receive automated email reminders of upcoming sesions/classes- it's pretty nifty!

Private/semi-private session:

For your first private/semi-private session, just give us a ring or stop by the studio in person when we're around- We don't keep private session availability on the Wellness Living Schedule/calendar so everything shows up as "unavailable".

Private schedules are always shifting so it's easier this way!

Usually we'll have a conversation to determine your first session's day/time, then you can discuss your next session in person/at the conclusion of your first session- kind of like hair appointments.

For group classes:

Although "Drop ins" are welcome, classes are cancelled if no one signs up beforehand.

You can book a class through the Wellness Living platform, the most common ways being:

If you don't already have a Wellness Living account, you'll be asked to create one.

Once you've created a Wellness Living account and schedule a few times, it becomes second nature.

Getting to your first session/class

Our Location is:

2000A Oak Trail Dr
Nolensville, TN 37135

Find us on Google maps

Our building/former location was sold and we have opened a temporary "Pop-up" studio with long term potential.

We are using this opportunity to "get away" from the Nolensville Rd. traffic, and have settled in the heart of the Carother's Farms neighborhood at the other end of Burkitt Rd. (Next to Cane Ridge Park).

It's a beautiful, walkable neighborhood with walking trails, a dog park, community garden- conveniently located, but off the beaten path.

Our next-door neighbors will be Ingrained Cafe and a quaint Sourdough Bakery- Bread, coffee and Pilates... what could be better!

If you live in the neighborhood, feel free to "walk on down". If you're driving, we only have street parking but the neighborhood is set up/designed for it, so it's pretty easy.

If all goes well, the intention is to make it our new permanent home!

What to bring/wear

We recommend:

Bringing yourself.

Wearing comfortable workout clothing- Yoga pants are great!

Men, if you wear loose shorts, please wear something under them- nobody wants to see that.

Water/water bottles are nice to have.

Grippy socks are not required- we're OK with bare feet!

Reformer straps are not needed (Yep, that's a thing at some other places).
